To promote the study and teaching of peace and peacemaking among the students of the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District

Background:  In 2007 Jack Daniels, ACCORD founding member donated seed money to ACCORD to create an annual Peace Award to promote the study and teaching of peace and peacemaking among C-RCS students.  The C-RCS School Board approved the Jack and Louise Daniels Peace Award May 7, 2007 and set up a bank account for the fund.  This fund has grown to $2565.00, from which ACCORD will award one $100 Peace Award each year.

The Peace Award’s First Year:  In May 2008 two Cobleskill-Richmondville High School students shared the Award,  by focusing on the work of Nobel Peace Laureates.

The 2008-2009 Peace Award widens the circle of applicants to include all high school students AND all school employees.  ACCORD will administer the Peace Awards as an add-on to its Mini-Grant program.  Any C-RCS student or employee may apply for the Peace Award by applying for a Mini-Grant that promotes the study and teaching of peace, peace-makers and peacemaking in the high school.

Guidelines & Suggestions for Peace Award Applications  Applicants may wish to purchase educational resources to use with students, apply for funding for conferences, performances, or student field trips, or bring in artists and educators who can fulfill the primary goals of the Peace Award.   Projects can enrich student knowledge and understanding or facilitate Student creative work (poetry, music, theater, etc. ) that

• explores the process of making peace historically,
• explores the life and work of a particular great Peace Maker
• celebrates the values and activities required for human beings (as individuals, communities or nations) to resolve conflicts and make peace with one another
• teaches the steps and process of conflict mediation/resolution to staff or students so they can help others resolve conflicts
• Peace Awards may also help fund workshops/conferences for all employees of the C-RCS High School to help them facilitate student peace making and community building skills.

How to Apply

·         Just fill out the regular ACCORD Mini-Grant Application,

·         Check the line  on the first page to indicate that you are applying for the Peace Award to supplement the amount awarded by the Mini-Grant Committee,

·         Make sure your proposal fulfills the guidelines listed above.

Future Plans  ACCORD continuously seeks donations to grow the Peace Award fund.  We would like to create a fund large enough to make annual Peace Awards at all grade levels.  Tax-Deductible Donation Checks should be written to The Jack and Louise Daniels Peace Award and mailed to ACCORD, PO Box 45, Cobleskill,  NY 12043.
