Facts about Safe Contacts
A Community Committee for Respect and Diversity (ACCORD) has established
the Safe Contacts Program to counter bias and hate in the
Cobleskill-Richmondville School District, and other Schoharie County
school districts.
Because hate hurts everyone
We are advocates for
Students at all grade levels in Cobleskill-Richmondville schools (or
other Schoharie County schools) who are experiencing bias or hate based
on
·
race, ethnicity, and religion
·
appearance and mental or physical abilities
·
gender and sexual orientation
·
social and economic status
We care and can help you.
Students hurt by bias or hate episodes can turn to safe contacts.
As your allies, we will
·
Listen to you with concern and understanding.
·
Keep what you say private and confidential.
·
Accompany you and your family when you meet with school officials,
counselors and teachers to discuss the incident.
·
Ask school officials to deal with the perpetrators of the bias/hate
episode in such a way that such acts will not be repeated.
·
Be a resource for parents, teachers, counselors and administrators.
We want to help assure the physical and psychological safety of every
child and to nurture the caring and supportive school community that
will make this possible.
